A BIT OF HISTORY

When mankind first began the industrial process in order to improve his economic and living conditions, he made use of wood from plants to build houses and enclosures for animals, devise hunting instruments, tools and variously manufactured goods, design transport carriages and sea-faring vessels.

Wood also served as a first domestic fuel, thereby constituting the very first energy source from which man derived the heat necessary to keep warm, cook food, and subsequently fuse metals.

The Phoenicians, expert navigators, were the first to make use of wood also as a packing material: they filled their wooden ships with cases which were also made of wood, in order to transport precious goods. Wooden cases were also employed by peoples from Cathay in the faraway Orient to transport rare products along the silk road.
